Foolish Ship
Dumb Ship - Wikipedia is a Satirical Literature written by Sebastian Brant, a German author in the 15th century. The book, also known as "Das Narrenschiff" in German, "Daß Narrenschyff ad Narragoniam" in early New High German, and "Stultifera Navis" in Latin, tells the story of a group of fools, idiots, and jesters from all walks of life who board a ship together with the goal of reaching the Foolish country Naragonia. The book consists of 112 chapters, each depicting a different type of fool in a manner similar to a carnival procession, accompanied by humorous woodcut illustrations and accompanied by moral and satirical poems. The first chapter introduces a Bibliomania, a book lover who collects ten thousand volumes of books without reading any of them, and satirizes those who are engrossed in Book collection without making any practical use of their knowledge, mocking the emerging Publishing Culture of the time. Other chapters satirize greed, rudeness, and those who cling to power. The book is considered a satire of the social and moral decay of Germany and the Catholic Church during that period.
